Caribbean Maya Route Friday departures according to attached schedule. (view the map) Day 1 Fri. Arrival to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico and transfer to Hotel Casa del Balam. Dinner. Day 2 Sat. After breakfast, depart for Chichen Itza, visiting
the colonial city of Izamal in route. Lunch at Chichen Itza;
visit the site and continue on to Valladolid. Overnight at the
Meson del Marques. Dinner.
Day 3 Sun. Depart after breakfast for the ruins of Ek Balam. Enjoy a picnic in the area near cenote Hubiku. Continue on to the archaeological site of Coba stopping around dusk to birdwatch. Overnight at the Hotel Villas Arqueologicas in Coba. Dinner Day 4 Mon. At dawn explore Punta Laguna in search of the elusive spider monkey. Return to Coba for breakfast and a visit to the ruins. Following lunch enjoy a short visit and swim in Dos Palmas cenote, arriving late afternoon in Akumal, the ideal place for snorkeling and scuba diving. Overnight at Villas Maya in Akumal or Cabañas Ana y José in Tulum. Day 5 Tue. After breakfast the morning is free to enjoy the beach at Akumal bay. Transfer to Cancun airport. If time permits, visit the Maya seaport of Tulum before heading for the airport.
This itinerary offers colonial cities, archaeological jewels including a chance to scale Cobá's enormous pyramid, and view recently restored discoveries. Added to that , the chance to see mammals, observe endemic birds in their tropical jungle setting, and to snorkel in cenotes, coves, bays and Caribbean reefs make this a special experience.
